The idea was born in 1980, in the west of Buenos Aires, Argentina. David Gangitano, future scientist and Ariel Soriano, Dj and future singer and guitarist begin a great friendship through the music shared by the genres of punk rock, new wave and post punk. Vinyls and cassette recordings Hard-to-get from Blondie, Gary Numan, Devo, Television, The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Jam, Joy Division, Wire, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Psychedelic Furs, Public Image Ltd., New Order, Adam and the ants, XTC, The Stranglers and The Damned. They are some of the artists of recent appearance in those years and unknows in Buenos Aires. In Buenos Aires some bands were appearing of such musical genres that later became popular as Virus, Los Violadores, Sumo or Soda Stereo and others, of very good quality that did not pass of some rehearsals, some show live or recording demos as Alerta Roja, Control, Los Laxantes or Jovenes Transmutados, were bands that deserved to be known all over the world totally ignored by the local record industry. The arrival of The Police in Buenos Aires in December 1980 was a fact in which they were present that marked them, a new wave band that was beginning to conquer the world. The argentine rock, which was excellent at the beginnig of 70's like Billy Bond, Los Gatos, Manal, Almendra, Pescado Rabioso or Pappo's Blues had been forgotten, their recordings were inconsequential and they did not sound anywhere unfortunately.
La Guillotina FM2000
Already in 1985, a friend of theirs gets a radio equipment that had belonged to the Argentine Army at the time of the military dictatorship, installed it and began to transmit from the room of a house in Merlo, Buenos Aires. La Guillotina FM2000 is born, a pirate or clandestine radio station. His show became very popular, the FM radio had a range of 45 km around and involved several friends of them from the neighborhood and high school who were in their teens. After 2 years of operation they were discovered, the radio was closed and they were stopped by the police. In the show they passed recordings and demos of artists from all over the world considered rare like: Virgin Prunes, SPK, Cabaret Voltaire, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Einsturzende Neubaten, The Velvet Underground, The Doors, Control, Los Pillos, Oberkampf, Telephone, Ranxerox, Dany Punx, T Rex, The Stooges , Bowie, The Pastels, Magazine, Buzzcocks, The Smiths, Big Audio Dynamite, Ultravox, Japan, Siniestro Total, Los Ilegales, Los Estomagos, Kraftwerk, Cocteau Twins, Can, Gang of Four, That Petrol Emotion, Todos tus Muertos, Killing Joke, Siouxie and the Banshees, New York Dolls, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, REM, Nick Cave, The Chameleons, The Birthday Party, The Cramps, The Fall or Violent Femmes among many others, plus the music that had united and loved them. It was music that did not sound anywhere and they had a major audience in western Buenos Aires through clandestine radio and La Guillotina radio show.
In early 2018, Dave, already a US scientist known worldwide for his research in the field of Molecular Biology, and associate professor at Sam Houston University in Texas decides to convene Ariel to return to his passions in independent record label format. He asks him to take care of the artists to be edited by the label, trusting in his musical taste and in his career as an independent artist with Iguana Lovers since 1990. Ariel travels to Houston, Tx. and both found Chavalote Records. The premise of Chavalote Records is to launch from the United States to independent DIY talents from around the world of genres Psych-Rock, Shoegaze, Post Punk, New Wave, Electroclash, Electronica, Garage Surf, Psycho Dub, Experimental Trash and Punk, give them to know and disseminate their work, help them to be presented live. His first action was to edit a collection on hand-cut vinyls made in Austin, Tx. of Argentine artists and sign for the label new talents, bands with members who just spent 20 years as Ninio Mercurio, La Gran Tortuga from Jujuy, Argentina, Rubber, Ural Mountains from Normandie, France or Nro.5 from Alicante, Spain and other great artists with members of impressive career in their homeland as Abducidos, Guia de Viaje, Iguana Lovers, Jovenes Transmutados, Fiori Ressia, Club Astrolabio, Ok Piramides and the fabulous Los Sedantes. Everyone deserves to be heard all over the planet regardless of their language. Music is love! Always listening to new musical projects, Chavalote Records is already in operation from Houston, Tx. to all the galaxies! Thanks!
